An exciting range of free courses on everything from computer coding and digital skills, to history and languages, are available for adults and families at Lancashire's libraries.

Short taster sessions, as well as longer courses, are on offer for anyone looking to pick up a new skill or develop their knowledge.

They're being made available thanks to close collaboration between Lancashire County Council's library service and Lancashire Adult Learning.

Courses for adults include digital skills, art, skills for work, health and safety, languages, healthy eating, wellbeing, history and heritage.

Other courses that are offered for families include Lego robotics, coding and pre-school play and learn.

County Councillor Peter Buckley, Lancashire County Council's cabinet member for community and cultural services, said: "We've got a great range of free courses available for those looking to take a different career path, expand their skillset, or simply pick up a new hobby or activity to enjoy with their family.

"Our courses are aimed at meeting all sorts of needs, whether you want to pick up a few key phrases for a holiday, study for a future or current job, or get involved in a new social activity. That is why we are offering a varied programme of courses across the Lancashire community to cater to all tastes and help adults and families achieve their goals.

"I'd urge people to check out what's available and take the opportunity to enrol on a free course."

Karen Wignall, Lancashire Adult Learning's Head of Curriculum, said: "Our collaboration with the Lancashire County Council’s library service has grown from strength to strength this year, and our teachers have been able to offer a variety of progression courses to enable library users to further develop the skills they have gained, along with the option to gain an accreditation in First Aid or Food Safety.

"We are also pleased to be involved with the Fun Palace initiative for a second year and will be working with approximately 20 libraries.”

Anyone who lives in the UK can join a Lancashire library, either online or by visiting in person. Membership is free and there are no age restrictions.
